This statue, Monument à la reine Victoria, was made by Marshall Wood in 1869. It is made of bronze and granite, and depicts Queen Victoria in 1837, the year she ascended to the throne at age 18. Unlike classical-style works in which royal persons are likened to gods with superhuman powers, Wood created a portrait of a delicate, even fragile monarch striking a sober and solemn pose.
