Tour Quartier des spectacles

This itinerary will immerse you in one of the city’s liveliest districts, recognized for its festivals. Both day and night, you will be exposed to unique artworks installed inside and outside buildings and in plazas, or even painted and projected on the walls of many cultural institutions. Beginning with the first work of art installed in the Montréal’metro in 1966, the tour in the Quartier des spectacles offers a selection of artworks that can be seen in the neighbourhood.

Tour In the heart of Ville‑Marie

Set off on an exploration of the public art in the Quartier Latin and the Quartier des Spectacles, two neighbourhoods in Ville-Marie that are essential to Montreal life! Run in partnership with 16/42 Tours, this two-hour walking tour explores the heart of Ville-Marie, a borough that covers a big stretch of downtown Montreal between Mount Royal and the Saint-Lawrence River. You’ll discover fifteen works of art from public and private collections including sculptures, art installations, and murals.

As the construction gets underway, revisit McGill College Avenue to relive its transformations throughout the ages.

From heritage buildings to modern constructions, from Place Ville Marie to McGill University, this new outdoor tour retraces the history of this iconic avenue in Montreal through photographs, engravings and paintings from the McCord Museum’s collection.

Ivanhoé Cambridge - Downtown and Old Montreal

For a fourth year, Tthe real estate company is partnering with the McCord Museum and inviting visitors to follow a circuit connecting eleven different properties. Ivanhoé Cambridge has selected five points of interest for informative indoor components complementing the use of the application. They are located at Complexe Les Ailes, Place Ville Marie, Édifice Jacques-Parizeau, 1000 de la Gauchetière and Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth hotel.

To round out the Ivanhoé Cambridge circuit, visitors are also invited to see the Centre de commerce mondial, Place Montréal Trust and W Montreal Hotel. A whole new way to look at downtown Montreal!

The Art of Magic

The Golden Age of Magic (1880-1930) was a significant period for popular entertainment in Montreal. From the early 19th to the early 20th century, Montreal was home to nearly fifty theatres and performance halls, many of which presented magic shows. Between 1882 and 1934, Montreal welcomed Alexander and Adelaide Herrman, Harry Kellar, Howard Thurston and Harry Blackstone, as well as Houdini and his famous “Water Torture Cell” illusion.
